CORE Education Trust is a multi-academy trust and company limited by guarantee.

The Trust’s governance model ensures clear and non-duplicative roles and responsibilities within the overall governance structure.

The running of the Trust is undertaken by the CEO and monitored by the Board of Trustees who hold the CEO to account and manage their performance. The Trust is governed by its Articles of Association which are agreed with its Members. In charitable law, the Directors are referred to as Trustees.

Our Governance Structure

The Members are the guardians of the constitution (Articles of Association) who ensure the charitable objectives of the Trust are fulfilled.

The Board of Trustees (also known as Directors under company law) are accountable to the Members, to the Secretary of State for Education, and to the wider community for the quality of the education provided to students and for the appropriate expenditure of public money. The Board holds ultimate legal accountability for all aspects of operational delivery and is required to have systems to assure themselves of the quality, safety and good practice of the affairs of the Trust. The Board delegates some responsibility including for day to day management. The Finance, Audit and Risk Committees are sub-committee of the Board of Trustees.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and the Senior Executive Team at CORE Education Trust have delegated responsibilities for the operational running of the Trust including supporting Academies and governance. The CEO is the Accounting Officer, supported by the Chief Operating Officer who is the Chief Financial Officer. The CEO and the Executive team report upwards to the Board of Trustees.

Each school has its own Local Governing Body (LGB). The LGB is accountable to the Board of Trustees, and provides a crucial challenge and support role and has some delegated responsibilities for its own Academy.

Governance in our Schools

Each CORE School has its own Local Governing Body (LGB). Each LGB has delegated authority from the Trust to support and challenge the Headteacher. The Trust’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) works closely with both the Headteacher and the Chair of Governors to ensure scrutiny procedures are effective and that governance is robust, with a strong regard for statutory compliance.
