Governance

The Members are the guardians of the constitution (Articles of Association) who ensure the charitable objectives of the Trust are fulfilled.

The Board of Trustees (also known as Directors under company law) are accountable to the Members, to the Secretary of State for Education, and to the wider community for the quality of the education provided to students and for the appropriate expenditure of public money. The Board holds ultimate legal accountability for all aspects of operational delivery and is required to have systems to assure itself of the quality, safety, and good practice of the Trust’s affairs. The Board delegates some responsibility, including for day-to-day management. The Finance, Audit and Risk Committee is a sub-committee of the Board of Trustees.

The Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) and the Senior Executive Team at CORE Education Trust have delegated responsibilities for the operational running of the Trust, including supporting Academies and governance. The GCEO is the Accounting Officer, supported by the Chief Financial Officer. The GCEO and the Executive team report upwards to the Board of Trustees.

Each school has its own Local Governing Body (LGB) or reports to the Education Advisory Board. The LGB and the Educaiton Advisory Board is accountable to the Board of Trustees, and provides a crucial challenge and support role.
